The Diabetes Hands Foundation is gearing up for its next annual Big Blue Test — an event taking place every November that challenges people to exercise for 14 to 20 minutes, check their blood glucose, and share the results online — and as part of that preparation, it is seeking applications for the grants that will be funded by the initiative.
Five $10,000 grants are available to US-based 501(c)(3) organizations and two $25,000 grants are available to overseas nonprofit organizations to provide supplies, medical tests, treatment, and education to people with diabetes in need.
“Every single Big Blue Test result recorded online at www.BigBlueTest.org translates directly into grant funding for patient care. Our goal for 2012 is to have 20,000 test results recorded online — more than double last year’s goal,” notes Manny Hernandez, President of Diabetes Hands Foundation.
The grants are made possible by funding from Roche Diabetes Care, makers of Accu-Chek products and services.
