Many people speak fondly of their childhood days in diabetes camp. But if you missed out on that chance as a kid — or if you’re looking to relive it — you’re in luck!
CampWILD is a sports-based camp for people 18 and over who have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. (Limited spots are also available for friends and family members who want to support their loved one.) According to the official Web site, CampWILD Training Camp “transforms your life through real-time diabetes education, sports skills clinics, workouts with your camp mates and coaches, really delicious and healthy meals, and a lot of Teamy Goodness.”
Participants, who range from beginning exercisers to accomplished athletes, choose from one of three tracks: cycling, triathlon, and run/walk. Campers attend educational workshops and meals as a large group, and break into smaller, sport- and level-specific groups for athletic training.
The next CampWILD training camp is taking place in Boulder, Colorado from June 19–23, 2013. The price, which is $1995 through March 31 and $2195 thereafter, includes camp tuition and all meals from the Wednesday dinner through the Sunday lunch. (Special diets can be accommodated.) The price does not include transportation to the camp or lodging or bike shipping or rental. Payment plans can be arranged with a down payment of $600, plus an $80 fee. All payments must be made before June 15, 2013.
