Free Resources for Kidney Disease Awareness Month

Text Size:

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of kidney disease, which affects an estimated 26 million people in the United States. In honor of Kidney Disease Awareness Month, we’d like to tell you about some free resources available from the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP).

Digital issues of the bimonthly publication aakpRENALLIFE, which covers topics ranging from dietary guidelines to government issues relevant to people with kidney disease, are available for viewing on the AAKP Web site. (Subscriptions to the hard copy of the magazine are available for a $10 fee.) Three different monthly electronic newsletters — one targeted toward those at risk of kidney failure, one for those interested in learning about kidney transplantation, and one for those undergoing or approaching dialysis — are available for subscription here.

In addition to these publications, the AAKP Web site features kidney-related videos, patient stories, kidney-friendly recipes, a frequently asked questions section, links to helpful Web sites, and much more.

AAKP membership is free for people who have or are at risk of developing kidney disease (including those with diabetes or high blood pressure) and their family members, and includes a digital subscription to aakpRENALLIFE, access to local programs and events, subscriptions to the three aforementioned electronic newsletters, and digital downloads of educational brochures. You can sign up by clicking here.
