Joslin Seeking Volunteers With Type 2 Diabetes for Nutrition Study

If you are between the ages of 30 and 80 and were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes[1], you may be interested in a new study from Joslin Diabetes Center that is currently recruiting participants.

The aim of the study is to compare the effects of three different types of medical nutrition therapy on blood sugar levels over 16 weeks. Volunteers will be randomly assigned to receive either standard nutrition therapy, structured nutrition therapy plus meal replacements, or structured nutrition therapy plus meal replacements and dietitian support.

The study involves three visits to the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston over 16 weeks, two follow-up phone calls, blood tests and body fat measurements, meeting with a dietitian, and keeping a food log.

People eligible to participate are those with Type 2 diabetes who are between the ages of 30 and 80, are overweight, and have an A1C[2] level between 7% and 10%.

Monetary compensation and parking validation will be provided for eligible study participants.

To learn more about the research, visit the Joslin Diabetes Center website[3]. And for questions, contact Padraig Carolan at (617) 309-4145 or padraig.carolan@joslin.harvard.edu[4].
