If you are or are the parent of an adolescent or teen with Type 1 diabetes, you may be interested in a study that is currently recruiting participants to evaluate the best ways to help youth decide whether to add an insulin pump or continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to their diabetes care regimen.
Half of the families in the study will serve as the control group and will be randomly assigned to their usual clinical practices with their own health-care team. The other families will be randomly assigned to additionally use a web-based “decision aid” that includes practical information and personal stories from other families with diabetes to help them make the decision about whether to add a pump or CGM to their care regimen.
Eligible participants have had Type 1 diabetes for at least one year (or six month if the Hba1c level is greater than 7.5%), are at least 11 but not yet 18 years old, are considering the addition of an insulin pump or CGM to their diabetes care regimen, and have at least one parent or caregiver who is also willing to participate in the study.
Participants will be paid for their involvement in the study. (Those who choose to start on an insulin pump or CGM will have to obtain the device on their own.)
