If you’re living in the area of San Diego, California, you may be interested in the “Taking Control of Your Diabetes Conference & Health Fair” taking place on Saturday, October 1, at the San Diego Convention Center.
Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) is a nonprofit organization founded by Steven Edelman, an endocrinologist with Type 1 diabetes, in 1995 to “educate and motivate people with diabetes to take a more active role in their condition.” The group has a number of initiatives, including its online reality series Extreme Diabetes Makeover; its weekly video series, “The Edelman Report”; and its national conferences and health fairs.
These conventions feature health screenings, fitness sessions, lectures from well-known speakers, exhibits from diabetes-related companies and organizations, the opportunity to speak with diabetes specialists, and a healthful banquet lunch.
The San Diego conference has both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes tracks. The Type 1 program includes presentations on topics such as “Food for Thought: Low Carb, Paleo, Juicing, and More,” “Treatments for Type 1 Other Than Insulin,” and “Diabetes Tomorrow: What’s On the Horizon for Type 1s.” The Type 2 program includes presentations on topics such as “Do You Know Your ABCs? A1C, Blood Pressure & Cholesterol,” “Diabetes on the Cheap,” and “Grocery Shopping: What to Stock Up On and What to Keep Off Your Shelf.”
The registration fee is $30 per person ($25 per person for two or more registering together) through 12 PM PDT on September 28.
