University of Virginia Study on Type 2 Diabetes

Text Size:

If you have Type 2 diabetes and use Facebook, you may be interested in participating in a new study being conducted by researchers at the University of Virginia (UVa) to better understand how people with the condition take care of their health.

The ultimate goal of the study is to provide information that will help the investigators create technologies, such as apps and self-management systems, that better meet the needs of those with Type 2.

The study will be completed in three phases: The first phase will involve about 36 people and will consist of a phone or online interview to learn how the participants use Facebook and how they take care of their health. Phase two will include about 24 people who will be asked to completed an online survey and to participate in an online focus group to talk about the survey. The third phase will involve as many as 800 people who will be asked to complete a survey that has been revised based on the responses to phase two.

The study’s results will be reported at the group level and will not be linked to any specific individual. Participants in phases one and two will receive a gift card as compensation for their time.

In order to participate, interested parties must be at least 18 years old, use Facebook, have a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, speak English, and live in or be a citizen of the United States.

For more information, visit the study group’s Facebook page. And for any questions, contact the group’s moderator, Rupa Valdez, by sending her a direct message on Facebook.
