A while back, we brought you news about the “Living healthy with my diabetes” program at Supervalu stores in the blog entry Supervalu Promotion. Recently, Supervalu has updated their Nutrition iQ program to help shoppers quickly find nutritious products.
Nutrition iQ was launched in 2009. With the expansion, the program now features special labels on products found in the fresh produce, frozen foods, self-service meat, seafood, dairy, and center store grocery sections. Different colored tags indicate different nutritional attributes, such as low sodium, whole grains, 100% juice, vitamins, minerals, and even omega-3 fats. Fresh produce tags will also highlight if a certain food is a good source of fiber, promotes immune health, supports healthy digestion, and more. According to Heidi Diller, a Supervalu dietitian, Nutrition iQ is meant to help shoppers “find the additional knowledge, clarity and simplicity they need to make better-for-you food choices, whether they simply want to eat a bit more healthfully or need help managing health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure or heart health.”
The Supervalu family of stores includes Acme, Albertsons, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s/Star Market, Shop ‘n Save, and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy.
