Winter Yurt Weekend for Adults With Type 1 Diabetes

Are you an adult with Type 1 diabetes who loves the great outdoors? Then you may be interested in the upcoming Winter Yurt Weekend in Ontario, being hosted by the nonprofit Canadian diabetes education group Connected in Motion.

Founded in 2008 by people with Type 1 diabetes, Connected in Motion uses outdoor adventure activities to introduce those who are living with the condition. As part of that mission, the group will be hosting an event in Windy Lake Provincial Park in Sudbury, Ontario, where participants can “come meet friends, learn some strategies for adventuring with T1 in the snow, enjoy the trails, the warmth of hot chocolate, storytelling by the campfire, and contemplate the patterns of Nordic sweaters.”

The event, for those 19 and older with Type 1 diabetes and their close friends and family members, will feature activities such as cross-country skiing, storytelling, hiking, mingling, and more. Accommodations in heated yurts will be available from the evening of Thursday, February 9, through the morning of Sunday, February 12.

Registration for the weekend costs $330 and includes shared accommodations, meals and snacks, cross-country ski rentals and permits for two days, group equipment, and Connected in Motion programming. For more information about the event, and to register, visit the Connected in Motion website.
